Perform a
Google search on the fantasy art of Sue Dawe and you will find a staggering
37 pages of her images. Most of the web sites that show her artwork are
personal sites with low resolution pictures. But it is interesting to
note that the sites are not limited to the USA, there are hundreds of
sites from across Europe and Asia. Sue Dawe is an international phenomenon.

Her continued
popularity is telling, considering she hasn't showcased any new work in
the last five years. And the fact that her art is instantly recognized is
a testament to her continued success based on her published body of work.
Although unicorns and flying horses may seem to be the stuff of little girls'
dreams, Sue's artwork appeals to all ages and genders; boys and girls, men
and women.
Nicknamed the "unicorn
artist" in the 1980s, Ms. Dawe's work is not limited to that mythical
beast. Her images are filled with fairies, dragons, mermaids, princesses,
cats, native Americans, swans, and much, much more. She is even inspired
by Star Wars movies and has created art depicting the noble Jedi of those
films.

Her work has sometimes
been criticized as being "too innocent" and not "hip"
enough for today's audiences. One only has to see the reaction of the
public when she appears at science fiction conventions around the western
US to know that this is totally untrue. With the popularity of movies
like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, fantasy has become
very mainstream. Ms. Dawe's work earned her a following of school-aged
children who have since grown up and have families of their own. Their
children would be thrilled to carry notebooks and folders with her artwork.
She is constantly besieged with e-mails asking for a compilation book
of her art or a yearly calendar. |

With a new agent and
renewed enthusiasm, 2006 will be the year of Sue Dawe's comeback - not
that she has really left the public consciousness. We are currently seeking
publishers for a coffee table book of her work, a company to produce calendars,
and marketing for school notebook supplies.
